Developed Ceramic Binder ( Cerabind )
The binder additives transform the
material into a green product having a control size, shape, surface and
particular density and microstructure. These additives are categorized by
their functions and are added in a small amount and most of them are
eliminated in a later stage of batch processing.
Cerabind is
applied in ceramic products for the following purposes:

Mode
of Action
The use of Ceramic-molding binder
provides green molding with formability and handling properties during the
formation of smaller green moldings of more complex shape, and also provides
ceramic products of good quality, higher yields, and fewer ceramic cracks
when obtained by sintering such green moldings. Binders are Bio-Polymer
molecules having an ability to swell in presence of water increase the
viscosity of water and bind the ceramic particles present in water and
keeping them in suspended form as well. It is a high molecular weight
polysaccharide product thickener having long three - dimensional polymer
chain exhibiting sticking, tackifying and binding properties.
Those
binders are used to impart workability must have several key properties
including: uniform mixing with ceramic composition, providing green strength
to allow processing, not decomposing during processing of the green body and
complete burn-out during sintering thus leaving minimal residual ash in
sintered body. Due to strong binding power and lubricity of binder polymer,
the wet blend of ceramic powder with an aqueous solution of the binder has
good workability in shaping and wet shaped body has good shape retain
ability. The shaped body after drying also has excellent mechanical strength
to facilitate handling.
